Anne Cossar, DipCOT

Occupational Therapist, Registered Member of the Health Professions Council and Case Manager

Anne is a Director of Phoenix Therapy and Care Ltd.

She is an Occupational Therapist with 14 years experience working with, managing and developing services for, children and adults with a range of disabilities. Her particular interest is in working with people with complex special needs, for example cerebral palsy, spinal injury and traumatic brain injury and setting up Nurse led teams for ventilated clients in the community.

She has worked independently as a Clinical Case Manager since 2000 and has over 8 years experience preparing medico legal reports.

Sue King, DipCOT

Occupational Therapist, Registered Member of the Health Professions Council and Case Manager

Sue qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1978 and gained a wide range of experience before specialising to work with children and young people with disabilities.

She is a member of the following professional organisations:

  • Member of NAPOT - National Association of Pediatric OT

Sue has been working as a Case Manager since 2000, and has over 8 years experience preparing medico legal reports.

Maureen Blake, MCSP

Chartered Physiotherapist and Registered Member of the Health Professions Council

Maureen trained in Edinburgh and qualified as a physiotherapist in 1973, since when has gained considerable experience in many areas of the profession. However since 1991, has specialised in the fields of musculo-skeletal medicine, acupuncture, manual handling training, ergonomic risk assessments and pediatric neurology.

She is able to assess and treat musculo-skeletal problems, specialising in spinal conditions and sacro-iliac joint dysfunction, and uses many different techniques and modalities, including acupuncture, in their treatment.

Maureen also works as a Manual Handling Consultant and is widely experienced and highly qualified in the provision of manual handling training, ergonomic workplace risk assessments and advice regarding planned and graded return to work.

Helen Buri, MSc, PGCertLT, DipCOT

Occupational Therapist and Registered Member of the Health Professionals Council

Helen qualified as an occupational therapist in 1990. Since then she has worked with adults and children experiencing a wide range of physical disabilities and injuries. Helen is an experienced therapy researcher and has recently worked for 3 year as a senior lecturer in occupational therapy.

She is a member of the following professional organisations:

Helen has over 7 years experience as an expert witness, which she currently combines with independently practicing as an occupational therapist.

Hazel Burch, BSc, OT

Occupational Therapist and Registered Member of the Health Professionals Council and Case Manager

Hazel returned to college to study occupational therapy as a mature student following a successful secretarial career working in both public and private sectors.

Since graduating in 1995 her occupational therapy experience has encompassed NHS impatient and outpatient services, community occupational therapy and private practice. With a focus on physical disability and illness, experience includes rehabilitation of patients with neurological, cardiac, loco motor and pain management problems. Treatment programmes established by Hazel use a range of tools including standardised and functional assessments.

Since completing courses relating to vocational rehabilitation, she has become a workplace assessor and continues to identify treatment programmes for those aiming to return to employment.

Rebecca Laing, BSc, OT

Occupational Therapist and Registered Member of the Health Professionals Council and Case Manager

She graduated as an Occupational Therapist in 1991 and since then has gained a wide range of experience in a variety of clinical settings mainly in the field of adult physical disability, both in hospitals and in the community.

She has a particular interest in treatment of neurological conditions, care of the minimally conscious patient and care of the elderly. She has considerable experience in establishing care packages as well as the ongoing management of them in the community. She places a strong importance on the benefits of rehabilitation and working with the client and their families to reach there individual goals.

She has worked as a case manager since 2002 and has been preparing medico legal reports since 1998. In addition Rebecca continues to work on a part time basis in an acute hospital setting.

Moira Lindores, BSc, PG Dip, RD

After working in accounts and banking for 10 years, Moira decided it was time for a career change. She graduated from Edinburgh University in 1999 with a BSc in Biological Sciences and having a keen interest in nutrition went on to study a Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. Moira now has 2 years clinical experience working in an acute hospital setting, having covered many areas of dietetics. Moira presently works part time for the NHS in Edinburgh and also works as a freelance dietitian.

Her freelance work comprises of outpatient clinics providing individual consultations in weight management and other conditions such as high cholesterol, IBS and diabetes. Moira implemented an eight week weight loss program for groups of individuals, which focused on evidence based methods of losing weight. She has a keen interest in children’s health and nutrition and has been involved in promoting health eating in schools.

Sophie Jans M.B.B.S (Melb)

Sophie graduated as a doctor in Melbourne, Australia, in 1983 and moved to Scotland in 1987 working initially in Child Health and General Practice. She has been involved in training careers working with spinal injured clients since 1996, developing and instituting training programs. She also currently works in the field of reproductive health and is an accredited instructing doctor.

Maggi Thomson, BSc(hons), RN, PGCert in HE

Maggi is a registered nurse who qualified in 1983. Since then she has worked in various specialties of adult nursing. She has gained experience in management of clients with severe disability through work with severely head injured adults for a major part of her career. For the last seven years she has been a lecturer in nursing studies. Maggi has recently joined the team at Phoenix Therapy and Care as a case manager.
